Long Distance Rescue Near Adak

Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrews conducted a rescue on the 200-foot trawler, Ocean Peace, around 100 miles northwest of Adak yesterday morning.

A crewmember, 25 year-old Joemar Lontoc, was cleaning a fish processing machine when it was reported to have accidentally activated and severely lacerated his wrist.

The Coast Guard received a report from the Ocean Peace crew Tuesday afternoon requesting assistance.

Coast Guard spokeswoman Charlie Hengen explained the details of the rescue that started Tuesday night and ended Wednesday morning.

(Rescue "We were launched … medical assistance.")

The rescue took place with weather conditions of blowing snow, one-quarter mile visibility and 30 to 45 mile per hour winds. The temperature was in the low 30’s.
