KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
High School boys have once again repeated as Region III track and field champions. They wrapped up the title over the weekend with 131 points – 21 more than second place Palmer. Colony was third with 84 points.
The Kodiak girls placed third, which was two places higher than coach Marcus Dunbar anticipated. The Wasilla girls ran away with the title, doubling the number of points that second place Kenai posted. The Warriors racked up 152 points to Kenai’s 76 and Kodiak’s 71.
Kodiak’s Marcus Dunbar was voted Coach of the Year for Region III.
The Kodiak boys won several events on their way to team victory. Karsten Schick took both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles, while Dylan Anthony won the 16-hundred and 32-hundred meter races. The team of Chaven Davidson, Caleb Nymeyer, Jordan Fogle and Schick won the 4-by-400-meter relay, while the quartet of Fogle, Nymeyer, Davidson and Anthony took the 4-by-800 relay.
Wasilla was fourth, followed by Kenai, Soldotna, Homer, Houston and Skyview.
On the girls’ side, Samantha Oliver won the 100-meter hurdles for the Lady Bears, while the team of Sarah Ng, Allie Smith, Chloe Ivanoff and Jaymi Bethea won the 4-by-800-hundred relay.
Colony, Soldotna, Skyview, Palmer and Houston rounded out the field.
