Trash Debate Continues as Assembly Readys for Vote

This week the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly will most likely vote on a new contract for solid waste disposal. Issues surrounding the contract have been publically, and often heatedly, debated for the past three months.

Assemblymembers has requested three revisions of the contract so far and at last week’s work session, they continued to debate the plan.

Heard in that conversation were Assemblymembers Pat Branson, Jerrol Friend and Sue Jeffries.

The current solid waste disposal contract with Alaska Waste expires on June 30^th. A vote on the new contract is on the agenda of this week’s regular assembly meeting.
