Kodiak Police Thursday seized 14 roosters that they allege were being raised for cockfighting. Police Chief T.C. Kamai says a noise complaint tipped them off.
The roosters were found at a residence in Aleutian Homes, an area near downtown where cockfighting and rooster crowing was a summer-long problem five years ago. Kamai says paraphernalia indicating the roosters were being bred for fighting was also seized from the Hemlock Street residence.
Kamai says he expects charges to be filed against at least one suspect early this week. Pitting animals in fights is a Class-C felony, punishable by a fine up to $50,000 and up to five years in prison.
The 14 roosters are being cared for by the Kodiak Humane Society.
