The filing deadline for Kodiak Island Borough elective office is at 4:30 this afternoon, and plenty of seats, as of this morning, still have no candidates. The borough clerk’s office expects a rush today, though, after a flurry of nominating packets were taken out late last week. The offices that so far do not have any candidates for them include the two borough assembly seats currently held by Pat Branson and Louise Stutes, and the school board sea held by Melissa Borton.

In other elections, incumbent Jerome Selby is so far the only person running for the mayor’s job. Jim Pickett is the only candidate for one seat on the Fire Protection Area One Board, while Amanda Henderson and Jessica Horn have filed for the two open seats on the Women’s Bay Road Service Area Board. There are six service area board seats with no candidates – two each in the Service Area 1 Board, Bay View Road and the Monashka Bay Road service areas. Tune into tomorrow morning’s newscast for the final tally of who is running for what in the Kodiak Island Borough.
