The Kodiak High School Bears kicked off the 2010 football season on a high note Saturday, with a 33-to-7 rout of the Eielson Ravens in Fairbanks.

Kodiak running back Riley McFarlin had for 109 yards on the ground and quarterback Matthew Chavarria had 103 yards in the air.

The Raven’s only score was a four- yard run by Pat Brown in the third period.

It was Kodiak’s fourth trip to Eielson, and the Bear’s fourth win.

With the win over third-ranked Eielson, fourth-ranked Kodiak will surely move up – but probably only one spot – in the Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network’s statewide football poll. Defending state small school champions the Kenai Kardinals are ranked number one, with runners-up Soldotna second. Over the weekend, Kenai trounced Skyview, while the Stars edged Wasilla.

Coming up this weekend will be the Kodiak home and conference opener against SoHi, the team’s arch rivals, who have beaten the Bears in three of the last four state championship games.
