Most people take medicine only for the reasons their doctors prescribe them. But the National Institute on Drug Abuse says 20 percent of people in the U.S. have used prescription drugs for non-medical use.
That is drug abuse-and it is a serious and growing problem.
Thursday night a group of concerned citizens met with representatives from a wide range of local organizations to learn more about the dangers of prescription drug abuse.
KMXT’s Maggie Wall attended the forum. She spoke with organizer Emily Arnick who is the program manager for the Indian Alcohol and Substance Abuse grant for the Native Village of Afognak. They spoke about the need to rethink the way we talk about and use prescription drugs.
