The Kodiak High School Bears did better than ever at the state tennis championships, which wrapped up in Anchorage over the weekend.
In first round action Rachel Hoyt and the boys doubles team of Lawrence Velasco and Jayce Taan both won their matches, putting them into the championship bracket.
Coach Ken McCarty phoned into Jock of the Rock on Saturday, and said the mixed doubles team of Joanna Garcia and Caleb Wright won the challenger division, which is basically teh consolation bracket.
Hoyt lost in straight sets in her quarterfinals match to Adrienne Fox from Dimond, and the team of Velasco and Taan also went down 6-love, 6-love to the team of Noland and Walgren from Service High.
