Polls are open throughout Kodiak Island and city precincts are reporting voters turning out at a brisk pace. KMXT’s Jacob Resneck checked in with two city precincts this morning.

At the first precinct inside the city’s Teen Center, poll worker Sandy Peotter said they’d been busy.

City residents have been turning out to vote in borough mayor, assembly, school board and city council seats as well as two voter propositions.

City voters are able to vote in borough and city elections. Registered voters are assigned a specific precinct to vote on, but if they find themselves unable to make it to their polling place in time, they are able to cast a special provisional ballot called a "question ballot." Though they may be limited on what they can vote on if they’re outside their polling place, explains chairwoman Merle Powell.

Standing by is her husband Guy Powell who playfully explains his reason for voting.

As of 10:45 a.m. 111 voters had cast a ballot.

At precinct two, polling place chairwoman Linda Sutton looks around as people are lining up to sign in.

As of 10:30 a.m. about 65 voters had cast a ballot.
Polls will remain open until 8 p.m. this evening.
