The first stage musical in two years will be produced in Kodiak this spring. The Kodiak Arts Council is producing Beauty and the Beast. Casting wrapped up last week for actors and musicians and rehearsal has already begun in anticipation of the March performances.

Co-director Jenny Stevens says cast members in the 45-person compliment are already hitting the right notes.

— musical 1 :23 "Everyone has to sing … was kinda thrilling."

Many of the songs will be familiar to those who have seen the Walt Disney animated film version. But Stevens says that this production, with much of the same music penned by Alan Menken, differs slightly.

— musical 2 :28 "This is the Broadway version … uh.. cast recording, so…"

There are only three performances scheduled for March 4th, 5th and 6th in the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium.

— musical 3 :28 "We want to fill the house … it should be fabulous."

While the production has been cast and the stage crew is coming together there are still opportunities for people to become involved.

— musical 4 :14 "I could use a few … painters and set builders."

Co-directing the play is Veronica Costa-Bolton who last October starred in the Fair Wind Players production of the play Wit.
