Pier 3 in Need of Replacement

Pier 3-the cargo dock-is showing its age. Engineers say it has just another 5 years of design life left.

The Kodiak City Council last week approved a study to develop concepts for replacing the dock that serves Horizon Line.

It’s a small contract-just under $40,000-but the results could have a major impact on Kodiak’s shipping abilities.

Harbormaster Marty Owen says the concept design will give local decision-makers a better idea of what’s needed and what to consider before replacing the seriously aging cargo pier.

He spoke with KMXT’s Maggie Wall recently about the project:
