Property Issues Top Assembly Agenda

The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly holds its first regular meeting of the year tonight with foreclosures and rezoning topping the list of agenda items.

The assembly will consider the publishing the annual listing of people who face foreclosure for failing to pay property taxes.

There are 15 pages of properties within the borough that have property taxes, fines and interest due. Tonight, the assembly is expected to give the OK to publish the list of delinquent properties in the Kodiak Daily Mirror.

Two of three public hearings set for tonight deal with previous year foreclosures. Some of the properties will be sold at a future land sale, and some are slated to be sold to the federal government.

The third public hearing deals with the transfer of the Mecca Lounge liquor license within the Mecca corporation.

As for the rezoning, the assembly will take up-in first reading- the rezoning of a piece of property on Rezanof from rural residential to business. The planning and zoning commission recommended the rezoning citing the lack of business property in the area.

The parcel in question is owned by the Painter Family Trust. It sits on the northeast corner of Woodland Drive and Rezanof-at the intersection where Mill Bay Road meets Rezanof.

One item of particular interest to fishermen at tonight’s meeting is a presentation by Dr. Bob Foy on ocean acidification and coastal Kodiak.

Tonight’s regular borough assembly meeting begins at 7:30 in the Assembly Chambers. KMXT will broadcast the meeting live.
