It’ll be the battle of the bruins this (Thursday) afternoon at the 4-A boys state basketball championship tournament in Anchorage. The Kodiak High School Bears will begin play against the state’s number one-ranked team, the Bartlett High School Golden Bears.

Kodiak, who was the surprise second-place team from the Northern Lights Conference two weeks ago in Homer, will play Bartlett at 1:15 p.m.

Coach Dave Anderson said the Bears may be the underdogs, but he’s looking forward to the game.

During the NLC tournament, the Bears changed their style of play and slowed the game down against its opponents. Forward Austin Cowley says that should work against Bartlett, too.

You can hear Bears basketball broadcast live on KVOK.

Other action in the tournament sees Juneau and North Pole playing at 11:30 this morning; Palmer and West Anchorage at 6:45 p.m. and Wasilla versus Service at 8:30. Second round play is tomorrow.
