Those thinking about doing some serious shopping soon, may want to circle Saturday on their calendar. That’s because Saturday is the city’s Sales Tax Free Day, and any purchases made inside the city will be free of the usual 6 percent sales tax. That’s like getting 6 percent off on everything you purchase.

Josh Bell is the Economic Development Specialist for the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce. He says local merchants have told him that last year’s tax free day was generally a positive experience for both merchants and local shoppers looking for a bargain:

Bell says since it is a city-wide tax, many merchants and service providers inside the city will participate in the 6 percent tax free day.
