March is Women’s History Month, and as they’ve been doing for several years now, the Kodiak chapter of the Soroptimist International – an organization of professional women – has an art show at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium, with art exclusively by local women artists.
Soroptimist Kodiak officers Laurie Murdock and Chris Lund were on KMXT’s Talk of the Rock on Tuesday, which just happened to be International Women’s Day. Murdock said the range and quality of the art is excellent – as usual.
The reception for the Soroptimist art show at the Gerald C. Wilson Auditorium will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and everyone is welcome.
— (Soroptimist 1 44 sec "Every single year the … of the work that we get.")
In addition to the exhibit, which is up now, Murdock says there will be art demonstrations during the reception on Saturday afternoon:
— (Soroptimist 2 41 sec "We have Paula … people how that’s done.")
At the reception, Murdock said they will give out their two annual cash awards:
— (Soroptimist 3 55 sec "We do every year give … money to the girl scouts.")
In addition to annual scholarships, the Soroptimists also spend their money on projects to further the organization’s mission of improving the quality of life for women and girls locally and around the world:
— (Soroptimist 4 33 sec "We truly believe KWRCC … getting that set up.")
