Girls’ softball at Kodiak High School kicks off at the end of the month when the varsity and junior varsity teams face Dimond High. Coach Sam Catt says this year there will be a lot of new faces.

— softball 1 :23 "We have a lot of freshman … nine freshmen on JV."

It’s Catt’s first season as coach and he says the team has been adapting to new techniques and strategies he’s introduced to Kodiak softball.

— softball 2 :37 "Things are different … but the team looks good."

As a new coach there has been a learning curve for the players. But so far he says the players have responded well.

— softball 3 :33 "The girls work hard … and we’re ready to go."

One of the biggest tests will come from facing Kodiak’s softball rival.

— softball 4 :16 "Homer’s our rival … it won’t matter."

The Bears’ first game of the season will be a home game against Dimond High School on Friday, April 29. And the teams will travel to Sitka on May 12th for a tournament where they’ll face teams from Ketchikan and Juneau.
