Baranov will use Rasmuson Grant to Aid Planning

After devoting a number of years to projects big and small on the 200 year old structure, the Kodiak Baranov Museum is now turning its focus inward toward the museum’s collection of historic objects.

The museum recently received a $5,000 grant from the Rasmuson Foundation to create an interpretive plan which museum director Katie Oliver says will be a guide for creating and displaying exhibits at the museum.

The Baranov Museum is unique in that the structure itself is historically significant and played a key role in Kodiak’s history. Oliver says they want to ensure that all the stories are told as best they can be.

Oliver says you won’t see any immediate changes. They need to plan for things like better display cabinets for the collections and that takes time and a clear focus as to where they are going. But the changes will come, and the museum will be better for it.
