Budget on the Agenda for Assembly Work Session

How the borough will handle its budget for next year, and where the money will come from to pay for things will be the subject of discussion for tonight’s (Thursday) Kodiak Island Borough Assembly’s work session.

The assembly will get a briefing on a number of budget and tax related matters.

The borough’s fiscal year begins July 1st and items to be discussed include the borough’s contribution to the school district, adjustments to the current year’s budget, and the borough’s property tax mill rate for the coming year.

Also on the agenda is a contentious proposal to change the severance tax. A number of fishermen and others testified at last Thursday’s regular assembly meeting that the change was unfair and would lead to more problems than it would solve.

Since this is a work session, the assembly can take no action.

Also people won’t be able to comment on the issues as they come up. Instead there is one Public Hearing period near the top of the agenda where residents can comment on any subject of interest-including any of the items on the agenda.

Tonight’s work session begins at 7:30 in the borough conference room downstairs.
