The Commerce Department Thursday announced the appointment of 21 new and returning members to the nation’s eight regional fishery management councils, including the North Pacific council.
Eric Schwaab, assistant administrator for NOAA’s Fisheries Service, re-appointed John Henderschedt of Washington and Eric Olson of Anchorage to what are called obligatory seats on the council. He chose the men from lists of nominees forwarded from each state’s governor.
Schwaab said the people he chose, fishermen and scientists, are uniquely qualified for the positions.
The terms, which begin on August 11th, are for three years. Olson has served most recently as chair of the North Pacific council.
