Dog Bay is no stranger to large fishing vessels. It is home to some of the largest commercial boats in the state and now operates one of the biggest boat lifts in the world. But as the summer fishing season gets into full swing, the deep water port get’s lonely this time of year and opens its doors to some unlikely visitors.
Perseus, a 163-foot luxury charter yacht pulled into Saint Herman Harbor this week. The sailing vessel, owned by Puddledock Limited, can host 10 guests and features two 16-foot tenders, a wakeboard, waterskis, eight sets of dive gear, three inflatable kayaks and all the fixings for snorkeling.
Local charter boats need not be intimidated. Perseus runs a steep $175,000 per week to rent. That’s more than $1,000 per foot.
The ship pulled out of town just before 4 p.m.Thursday.
It is unclear who is renting the charter vessel.
According to the Harbormaster’s Office, the Perseus isn’t the first fancy boat to visit Kodiak this summer, and it won’t be the last.
