Security Alarm Company Falsely Claiming KPD Endorses Product

Jay Barrett/KMXT

The Kodiak Police Department is warning residents and businesses of door-to-door vendors selling security alarm systems that they say are endorsed by the KPD and by Chief T.C. Kamai personally.

In an e-mail this (Thursday) morning, Kamai said neither he nor the department endorses products offered by any company.

Pinnacle Security spokesman Stuart Dean in Orem, Utah, said the company does have a small sales team in the state this week, and that six of them came to Kodiak. He said it is not his company’s policy to fabricate endorsements from law enforcement officers, but some over-eager sales people may have hinted the chief endorsed the product. He said he’s spoken to the sales manager and does not anticipate any future issues, and he said he plans to contact Kamai to smooth over any misunderstanding..

Chief Kamai said last year representatives from Pinnacle Security did the same thing, and claimed their products and services were endorsed by him, when in fact they were not.
