The event is still two weeks away, but the 2011 Relay for Life in Kodiak has already raised almost $35,000 in individual fundraising and sponsors.
Angela McFarland helps put the event together and said this year the fundraising goal is $100,000. Last year the relay raised $74,000. She said the relay has a lot of ideas lined up for the 24-hour event.

McFarland said the locks of love hair fundraiser will come back this year in addition to themed laps, live entertainment and many other fun events for the community. A full schedule of events will be released this week. So far, 30 teams have signed up for the relay, but McFarland stressed that it is never too late for a team to sign up.

McFarland hopes to have a good turn out this year to show support for people who have lost loved ones or people still fighting against cancer.

The relay will begin with the survivor lap at 6 p.m. on July 29th and go until 6 p.m. the following day.
