The deadline to make comments on the Kodiak Road System Trails Master Plan is September 1st. The plan is the culmination of more than a decade of planning, mapping and assessing trails on the Kodiak road system.
Bud Cassidy is the director for the community development department with the Kodiak Island Borough and said having a master plan in place for Kodiak trails is beneficial for a number of reasons.
Cassidy said by getting all their ducks in a row when it comes to trails, the borough will have information needed to seek out funding for maintaining those trails, providing signage or even creating new trails. He said the effort to make Kodiak more recreationally accessible comes from a nationwide push toward outdoor recreation.
The plan is available online here. The Borough Parks and Recreation Committee encourages community members to make comments about the plan and also the accuracy of the maps, designated uses, property lines or conditions of the trails. People have until September 1st to contact the community development department at the borough to share their insight.
