Kodiak’s long time mayor is choosing not to run for re-election this year. Carolyn Floyd, who has served continuously since first being elected in 1993, said she has been mayor for 18 years, and that seems long enough.
Meanwhile, Councilwoman Pat Branson, the executive director of the Kodiak Senior Center, has thrown her hat into the ring.
Branson is so far the only candidate who has filed for the mayor’s job. Randall Bishop and former Councilman Terry Haines have filed to run for the city council. Anyone interested in running for either city mayor or city council still has time. The filing period ends August 15th at 4:30 p.m.
Floyd is not the only long-time presence on the council that will leave after the October Municipal Election; Councilman Tom Walters, who also was first elected in 1993, previously announced he would not seek another term.
