The Kodiak Chamber of Commerce is looking for some engaged citizens to step forward and speak at the candidate forum coming up on Tuesday, co-sponsored by KMXT. Chamber Executive Director Trevor Brown says he would like folks to talk on the two questions that will be on the October 2nd ballot. One regards a one-percent sales tax proposed by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly, and a citizens initiative to institute term limits on assembly and school board members and the borough mayor.
Newspaper ads against the term limit initiative have started to show up in the Kodiak Daily Mirror from a group calling itself "Citizens for Voters Choice." Brown says he doesn’t know who’s behind it, but said perhaps they would like to volunteer to speak at the forum.
Last month Brown had asked the membership if they would like the chamber to take a position on either of the issues, but he said they did not.
The questions will be on all borough ballots during the municipal election on October 2nd. The candidate forum will be on Tuesday night, and will be broadcast here on KMXT.
