This is the last home meet of the season for the Kodiak High School cross country team. They’ll be running this afternoon at Fort Abercrombie against visiting opponents Colony, Port Lions and Karluk.

Middle school boys run a 2.5-kilometer race at 3:45, with the middle school girls following a half hour later.

The high school boys kick off on their 5-K at 5 p.m., with the girls starting at 5:45.

The annual cross country potluck dinner and awards will be at 7 p.m. tonight in the Kodiak High School Commons. On Saturday, there will be a co-ed four-by-one-mile relay at Baranof Park, with all grades welcome. Coach Marcus Dunbar says he’ll hook you up with a team if you don’t have one for that event.

Kodiak will also host Homer in swimming today and tomorrow. Check with the high school for start times.

The volleyball team is on the road in Kenai for matches today and tomorrow as well.

On the gridiron, the Bears football team has a chance at a winning Northern Lights Conference record tomorrow in Soldotna against the Stars. Kodiak is currently 2-2 in the conference – and over all – and tomorrow’s game against the team’s arch rivals is the last conference game of the season. The Bears will play Monroe and Valdez in non-conference games to close out the season.
