Full Sports Weekend Ahead for Bears

It’s a big weekend for Kodiak High School athletes as two sports wrap up the seasons.

The big highlight is the state cross country running championships at Anchorage’s Bartlett High School. The Kodiak boys are among the favorites to contend for the state title, and they will take to the course at 12:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon The Lady Bears will compete at 2:15.

The Kodiak football season will end on Saturday as well, since the Bears failed to make the play offs for the second straight year. Kodiak’s varsity and JV squads will travel to Valdez to face the Buccaneers, a Greatland Conference team. Kodiak Athletic Director Bryan Ferris says Valdez has swapped the times for the games, with the varsity squads playing first at 11 a.m., followed by the JV at 2 p.m.

Kodiak’s swimmers and spikers will have two days of action here at home Friday and Saturday.

The volleyball team hopes to keep its winning streak alive against the Skyview Panthers, with C-team games starting at 4 p.m. Friday, followed by JV at 5:30 and varsity at 7. Games on Saturday start at 9 a.m.

The Colony Knights visit for two days of swimming and diving competition against Kodiak. Action begins at 6 p.m. Friday and at 10 a.m. Saturday.
