Lady Bears Dominate as Kodiak Sweeps Homer Invite

The Kodiak High School boys and girls swimming and diving squads swept the Homer Invitational over the weekend. The Kodiak girls finished with 63 points, ahead of second-place Homer, which scored just 19. Meanwhile, the Kodiak boys had 42 points, dunking runner-up Soldotna, which scored 31.

The Lady Bears were so dominant, they won all but one event in the nine-team meet, the 100 meter breaststroke. The Kodiak boys took five events. We have full results after the jump.

In cross country, the Bears were at the 5-kilometer Palmer Invitational on Saturday. The Kodiak boys were second with 70 points to West Valley’s 50. Kodiak’s top finisher was Christiansen Cole in fifth, with a time of 16-minutes 14.59 seconds. Levi Thomet was eighth at 16:35.

The Lady Bears were seventh overall, with a team score of 167. Kenai Central won with a score of 78. Kenai freshman phenom Allie Ostrander once again dominated the race, putting in a time under 18-minute, and winning by nearly a minute. Adriane Horn was the top Kodiak runner in 14th with a time of 19:24. Tiffany Bolyard was next in 26th place at 19:50.

Coach Marcus Dunbar said travel delays kept the Bears from the class races at the Anchorage Christian School meet on Friday.

In the high school gym, on Friday, the Bears swept the Homer Mariners in volleyball 25-14, 28-26 and 25-23 to pick up a Northern Lights Conference win. Kodiak also defeated Homer on Saturday in a non-conference match.

On the gridiron for the homecoming game, the Bears had one good quarter against the Kenai Kardinals, but wound up losing 42-to7. After trading early touchdowns, the Kardinals scored 35 unanswered points. The Bears are now 2-and-2, both overall and in the Northern Lights Conference. Kodiak’s only score came on a 24-yard run by quarterback Kevin Lapola Junior.
