The Roads End in Chiniak recently reopened and is looking to serve liquor. A request for a new liquor license is on tonight’s (Thursday’s) regular meeting agenda for the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly.
A public hearing on the request of one of two scheduled tonight.
The borough assembly will not actually decide the fate of the Road’s End’s liquor license, that is the purview of the Alaska Alcohol Beverage Control Board. The ABC gives local communities a chance to comment on proposed liquor licenses.
The other public hearing deals with rezoning of land in Ouzinkie to allow the installation of a microwave dish.
In addition, three more rezonings are coming before the assembly for the first hearing tonight.
Two of the rezonings concern combining two parcels into one. Jay Johnston, the owner of the Old Rendezvous site at Middle Bay, and Leisnoi are asking for the rezoning as part of a move to connect the parcel closest to the Chiniak Highway to the Old Rendezvous site. That would expand the property the Johnston’s house sits on all the way out to the highway.
The fourth rezoning on the agenda deals with the old teacher housing at Akhiok. The request is to change that zoning from Rural Neighborhood Commercial to Public Use Lands.
The regular borough assembly meeting begins at 7:30 in the Assembly Chambers, and KMXT will broadcast the meeting live.
