National Senior Center Month Highlights Programs Locally

September is National Senior Center Month, and staff from the Kodiak Senior Center was on KMXT’s Talk of the Rock yesterday to discuss some of their programs.

Executive Director Pat Branson:

(Senior 1 26 sec "We have lots of … senior in-home program.")

Marita Kaplan directs the Island Cove Adult Day Program. She said when she started there, only about eight people took advantage of the program’s services, and now up to 25 participate each day:

(Senior 2 54 sec "We have a variety of activities … very important to us.")

She said since so many of the clients are there daily, the staff is often able to spot health changes before they become serious:

Rio Demers (d’merrs) runs two outreach programs through the senior center:

(Senior 4 55 sec "One is senior in-home … isn’t always possible.")

Her other outreach program is for family caregivers:
