Two large fishing vessels collided late Sunday night on Kodiak’s waterfront.

Coast Guard spokesman David Mosley said the 98-foot Flying Ocean and the 86-foot Muskrat collided at Pier 2 at about 11:30 p.m. No injuries or pollution was reported, though the Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Detachment is investigating the incident.

Kodiak Deputy Fire Chief Jim Mullican said the skipper of the Muskrat phoned the Kodiak Fire Department for fear its ammonia refrigeration system had been damaged. Mullican says the department set up an exclusion zone around the ship and conducted atmospheric testing both inside and outside the Muskrat, but found the ammonia system to be intact and not leaking.

The National Weather Service in Kodiak reported northeast winds of 19 knots, gusting to 28, around the time of the incident.
