Helping Parents Help Schools Help Students

Jay Barrett/KMXT

On Saturday a past Alaska PTA president was in Kodiak to conduct what she calls a "Parent University." Paula Pawlowski said the program is designed to help parents become more involved with the schools.

(PTA 1 34 sec "It’s not new for the PTA … plan for parent engagement.")

She said how parents become engaged with their schools under the state plan is left up to the individual school districts, and those schools should develop a plan before recruiting parents:

(PTA 2 47 sec "It’s not just enough to say … that too is parent involvement.")

Pawlowski said the PTA is also hosting a monthly webinar, or web seminar on the Internet, on parent engagement. The first one is tomorrow:

(PTA 3 45 sec "It is based on the six standards … website and pick it up.")

We have contact info for Powlowski and the PTA website on our website, KMXT dot org.
