The Kodiak Island Borough is currently looking to fill about a half dozen seats on their boards, committees and commissions. There are another 16 seats opens on the various service area boards.
Residents who want to get involved with a board must be a qualified voter of the borough and must remain a resident of the borough while in office. To participate in a service area board you must also be a resident of that area, with the exception of the Airport Fire Protection Service Area Board which borough clerk Nova Javier says has been inactive for about eight years. She says all applications are kept until they are reviewed by the assembly.
Javier adds applicants should have some knowledge of Robert’s Rules and the Open Meetings Act, however training is made available to new appointees.
