KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
Kodiak High School history teacher Jim Schnick has been announced as the school’s new head football coach. Schnick has been the offensive line coach for the junior varsity team for the past two seasons and replaces Todd Cook who has coached for seven seasons.
Schnick moved to Kodiak last year from Michigan, where he grew up. He played football all through high school and college. He says he’s really excited about this new opportunity and is looking forward to getting the team to state.

Schnick says he’s able to relate to the players because he’s only a few years removed from being an active football player himself. His coaching style is simple:

Even during the off-season Schnick is coaching. He sees a lot of the team on a daily basis, either in his U.S. or Alaska history classes and works to help keep them on track to graduate and in shape for football.

Schnick has started a weightlifting program that meets three times a week and helps to keep the team active during the off-season.
