A large group of teachers are currently standing outside the borough building. Kodiak Borough Education Association Union President Sami King couldn’t give details as to why the teachers had gathered outside waving poster board signs in their cold-weather gear. Supporters cheered as union representatives walked into the borough building to resume talks. King hesitated to call it a protest.

The teachers gathered at 3:45 p.m. Organizers say they counted 68 people when the gathering first came together. At 4:15 p.m. about 40 supporters remained.

Small slips of paper had been handed out that read, "This grievance is about the process for settling disputes. We have been denied this process. I am here to support that process being honored as stated in our negotiated agreement."

Supporters were hesitant to elaborate on why they had gathered. One mentioned that making the details of their grievance public would work against them.
