CHARR Once Again Offering You a Ride Home

Kodiak CHARR will again be sponsoring free cab rides on New Year’s Eve. The program- which will have just about every driver from Kodiak’s four cab companies on shift- is in its eighth year.

Helen Hartman is the president of Kodiak CHARR. She says all Kodiak restaurants and bars are participating in the program.

The Kodiak chapter is one of several Alaska CHARR affiliates that offer free rides during the holidays. Ketchikan and Juneau have similar programs for New Year’s. Anchorage’s program offers rides for people and their cars year-round. Hartman- who also works at the American Legion- says the free rides keeps Kodiak’s roads safe. For at least four of the last five years there have been no DUIs in Kodiak during New Year’s celebrations.

The program runs from 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve through 6 a.m. New Year’s Day. The ride from the bar or restaurant where you are celebrating back to your home is free. The ride back to your car the next morning or afternoon is on your dime.
