Kodiak Electric Association’s president will be one of the speakers tomorrow at a wind power presentation held in Anchorage and available for online viewing. Darron Scott is one of three presenters at the Wind Power in Alaska seminar presented by the Renewable Energy Alaska Project, according to Stephanie Nowers, the spokesperson for the project.

(Windy 1 33 sec "So we have Darron … that are using wind.")

Wind power is especially big in Western Alaska, with its long stretches of virtually flat terrain, but at this point, all the installations there are on a smaller scale than Kodiak’s utility-size turbines. But just because they’re smaller, it doesn’t mean they’re less important:

(Windy 2 36 sec "Compared to the Kodiak, … the different projects.")

Nowers says as far as alternative or renewable energy sources in the state go, hydro-electric still rules, but wind power is growing quickly:

(Windy 3 31 sec "Twenty-one percent of our … so it’s definitely growing.")

Wednesday evening’s seminar will be in the Anchorage Museum. If you don’t happen to be going to town, it’ll also be available via live streaming on the web.
