45th Annual Joe Floyd Basketball Tourney Tips Off

The 45th Annual Joe Floyd Winter Classic Basketball Tournament kicked off yesterday afternoon here in Kodiak. The Bears are hosting teams from Cordova, Klawock, Ketchikan and Juneau’s Thunder Mountain. It’s the second year the former Christmas tournament has been played in January.

The opening game saw the Cordova Wolverines and Ketchikan Kings boys play at 2 p.m. At 3:45, the Klawock Chieftains and Cordova girls faced off.

The hometown teams saw action starting at 5:30, with the Bears playing the Thunder Mountain Falcons. The Kodiak boys won 53 to 42.

The Lady Bears hosted the Thunder Mountain girls at 7:30, winning 37 to 29.

Action in the round robin tournament continues this (Friday) afternoon at 2 with the Falcon and Wolverine girls, followed by the Kings and Falcon boys at 3:45. The Kodiak girls play the Chieftains at 5:30, while the Kodiak boys play the nightcap against the Wolverines.

The games start at 12:30 on Saturday with Thunder Mountain and Klawock girls, followed by the Falcons and Wolverine boys at 2:15. The Lady Bears take on Cordova at 4 and the Kodiak boys wrap the tourney up at 6 against Ketchikan.
