New Test for PSP Could Receive Research Funding

Two Kodiak researchers and a partner in Anchorage are seeking funding from the North Pacific Research Board to evaluate a new method of sampling for paralytic shellfish poisoning. Brian Himmlebloom and Julie Matweyou of the Kodiak Seafood and Marine Science Center and Ray RaLonde of the Marine Advisory Program in Anchorage have submitted two proposals to the NPRB. Currently, according to Himmlebloom, PSP can only be confirmed by complex and expensive test that cannot be done in the field.
