Just before 5 p.m. Sunday night, the City of Kodiak fire department responded to a fire at the Andrew Airways log cabin in Trident Basin. The building was "fully involved" upon arrival and the Coast Guard fire department was called for backup. Deputy Fire Chief Jim Mullican says crews battled the fire for over three hours.

Mullican says no one was in the building at the time of the fire. The inside of the building is completely charred and some nearby business vans received radiant heat damage that melted plastic parts and cracked windshields. While the structure is considered a total loss, Mullican says it could have been worse.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
