Recently departed Kodiak City Mayor Carolyn Floyd has been named to the Alaska Women’s Hall of Fame.

Floyd moved to Kodiak in 1955 with her husband, Joe. She helped start the Kodiak Community College and served as its president for 18 years. KCC’s library is named in her honor. She then became city mayor in 1993 and helped establish the Kodiak Multicultural Forum, served on the board of the Alaska Municipal League and as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. She still serves on the National League of Cities Advisory Council.

Floyd was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Education by the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1989 to complement her master’s in business education.

Floyd joins several other current and former Kodiak residents, Wilda Hudson, Leah Webster Peterson, and Lydia Black. Other notable hall-of-famers include Elizabeth Peratrovitch, Fran Ulmer, Sinrock Mary, Lael Morgan and Dr. Rosita Worl.

Floyd’s nomination to the Alaska Women’s Hall of Fame was made by current Kodiak City Mayor Pat Branson
