Police Warn of Counterfeit Bills Circulating in Kodiak

Jay Barrett/KMXT

The Kodiak Police Department has been getting reports over the last few days of counterfeit money being spent in town.

Local merchants report the counterfeits were exclusively in $20 and $100 denominations.

The police department said the bills appear authentic at first glance, but upon closer inspection obvious flaws stand out. They did not say what those flaws were or how to spot them.

The police also did not say how many counterfeit bills have been spotted.

Merchants are encouraged to scrutinize $20 and $100 bills closely and report any suspicious money to the police. Customers are urged to do the same when receiving change.
