High winds combined with heavy snow and rain left residents from Bell’s Flats to Chiniak and Pasagshak without power yesterday. The outage happened around 2 a.m. yesterday. Kodiak Electric Association estimates power from Bells Flats to White Sands Beach to be restored by now. Customers past Bell’s Flats may be without power for the next four to five days.

KEA’s President Darron Scott.

(KEA Outage 1 :11 "It’s a difficult situation. We apologize for the inconvenience we’re causing with the storm. It’s just really difficult to get this all fixed up very quickly. There’s just a lot of damage from the ice.")

According to a press release, KEA crews are responding to 13 damaged poles on the Middle Bay line; eight of those are completely broken. Several more poles on the Pasagshak line are damaged with boroken cross arms and downed wire.

KEA asks residents to report downed power lines and to stay away from them as they may still carry a charge.
