Kodiak’s Trevor Dunbar, running in his first track and field season for the Oregon Ducks, won the 5,000 meters at Saturday’s Pepsi Invitational in Eugene by a wide margin. His time of 13-minutes 51.79-seconds was 12 seconds ahead of second-place teammate Chris Kwiatkowski. The pair led the Ducks to the Invite’s win over the defending national champion Texas A-and-M Longhorns 204 points to 190.
Dunbar’s dominating victory came over two runners ranked in the top-10 nationwide: his teammate Kwiatkowski, who is number eight, and A-and-M’s Kevin Burnett, ranked 10th. Burnett was fourth in Saturday’s race, 23 seconds behind Dunbar.
Dunbar is relatively new to the Ducks, having transferred from the University of Portland at the semester break.
