Preliminary figures from the Rasmuson Foundation show over $33,000 from 456 donations have been pledged to Kodiak non-profits through the Pick Click Give program. Pick Click Give allows Alaskans to donate all or part of their Permanent Fund Dividend to one or more charities.
According to an announcement Tuesday, the program has raised $2.2 million statewide this year, which is 10 percent above the Rasmuson Foundation’s goal of $2 million. It’s nearly 50 percent more than the amount raised in 2011.
Over 23,000 Alaskans donated this year, each giving an average of $95.
There are only eight Kodiak non-profits participating directly in Pick Click Give this year, though Kodiak will benefit from donations made to statewide organizations such as the Food Bank of Alaska, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and the Red Cross.
Though the figures could change between now and PFD time, the Kodiak Public Library Association, which is trying to raise money for a new library, has received 72 pledges for a total of nearly $9,000. The Human Society of Kodiak, which runs the Kodiak Animal Shelter, has received 139 pledges for $8,275. Meanwhile, Representative Alan Austerman said in an announcement that some non-profits have lately opted out of Pick Click Give because of a mandatory audit requirement for organizations with more than $250,000 in annual revenue. He said HB302 passed the House last month, which would remove the mandatory audit. He said if the Senate passes the bill, he expects to see a longer list of organizations participating next year.
