It took a huge team effort to make the track at Baranof Park suitable for Kodiak High School’s intra-squad blue and gold pentathlon on Friday. Track and Field Coach Marcus Dunbar said team members, coaches, school and city employees, parents and other community members chipped in and shoveled this year’s massive snowfall off the quarter-mile track.
In an e-mail Sunday, Dunbar thanked Kodiak Rentals for donating the use of some equipment for the job, and singled out Kip Thomet for "going way above and beyond," in helping with the clean-up.
Here are some highlights from the Blue and Gold "Invincible Pentathlon":
A new record of 4-minutes 47-seconds was set by the girl’s 4-by-400 relay team of Karina Hathaway, Leah Cawthorn, Marley Wilkins and McKenzie Barnett.
Barnett won three other events, including the high jump, 300-meter hurdles and the pentathlon.
On the boys’ side, Jordan Fogle and Michael Manifo both won two events; Fogle the pentathlon and the 800-meters, while Manifo took both the high jump and the standing triple jump.
The Gold team beat the Blue 208 to 166.
