The president of both the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce and the Morning Rotary Club has been appointed to a seat on the Alaska Aerospace Corporation board of directors. Lindsey Knight, who owns and operates the Kodiak Athletic Club, was appointed Friday by Governor Sean Parnell.
Knight was appointed as a representative of the private business sector and as a resident of the borough where the corporation’s launch activities occur. He replaces former Kodiak City Councilman Tom Walters.
The governor requested $30-million in the state capital projects budget this year, and the Legislature approved it. The money will go toward building a third launch pad – this one capable of handling even larger rockets – at the Alaska Aerospace Corporation’s Narrow Cape launch facility.
The AAC and the Kodiak Launch Complex are state-owned enterprises.
