There has been another shooting death in Kodiak. The Alaska State Troopers say 28-year-old Justen Nixon of Kodiak was shot at 3:18 a.m. Saturday morning while at a house party on Spruce Cape Road. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation – a branch of the state troopers – is looking into the shooting.

Trooper spokesman Tim DeSpain says Nixon was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooting occurred while 911 dispatchers were on the phone with others at the party who had called because a fight was breaking out.

There is a suspect, but DeSpain says he and other witnesses are cooperating with the investigators. DeSpain couldn’t say if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the shooting.

Next of kin have been notified, and Nixon’s body will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Anchorage.

Nixon’s is the third shooting death in Kodiak this year. In April two men were shot to death on the Coast Guard base. The FBI is investigating, but there have been no arrests.
