Nash Takes Space Job in Virginia

The Associated Press

The Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority has named a new executive director.

The authority’s board of directors announced Wednesday that it has selected Dale Nash, currently the CEO of the Alaska Aerospace Corporation. He begins his new position July 31. He will replace Dr. Billie Reed, who has served as executive director since the authority was established in 1995.

Nash has spent nearly 30 years in the aerospace industry, including serving as director of launch operations at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Virginia Secretary of Transportation Sean Connaughton says Nash’s experience will be a tremendous boost as the authority works to become the top commercial space port in the U.S.

Alaska Aerospace president and chief operating officer Craig Campbell says options for the corporation’s board of directors include appointing a new CEO directly or launching an executive search. The board could decide to name an interim chief until Nash’s replacement steps in.

Campbell says no date for the board meeting has been set.
