KMXT 100.1 FM Public Radio in Kodiak, Alaska
Local non-profits are set to learn how much funding they will receive from the Kodiak Island Borough during this evening’s regular assembly meeting.
As it stands now, the assembly proposes to distribute $360,000 between 28 local non-profit activities ranging from the American Red Cross to the Girl Scouts to the Kodiak Maritime Museum.
The annual non-profit funding is scheduled under resolutions, so there will be no public hearing tonight, though citizens’ comments on any topic will be accepted earlier in the meeting.
In the interest of full disclosure, KMXT-Kodiak Public Broadcasting has requested $10,000 from the borough.
Another resolution being considered tonight is between the City of Kodiak and the Borough that would allow the transfer of property from the city to the borough for construction of a long-term care facility at the hospital.
The proposal is to transfer a piece of the easterly cemetery property to the borough. In exchange, the borough would transfer a piece of property at the west end of the cemetery for the city to include into the cemetery.
Also being considered tonight is a contract for school counseling for the coming year. The school-based mental health services between the borough and Providence Kodiak Island Counseling Center will cost the borough $381,000.
Since the assembly is still looking for a new borough manager, an executive session is scheduled at the end of the meeting to evaluate candidates for the open manager position.
Tonight’s assembly meeting begins at 7:30 in the borough assembly chambers and KMXT will broadcast the meeting live.
